drill hack

Today we did a little hardware hacking. We decided to use the motor on a hand drill for our spatial media project. The trick is we need to reverse the direction of the motor with Arduino but this is controlled by this mechanical switch on the drill – i.e. a button that you press.

We removed the switch and make the drill go through a double relay circuit. One relay controls the on/off of the motor and the other relay controls the direction of the motor. Both relays are then controlled by the arduino. There problem solved.
