ghost lamp

today I did a little projection mapping exercise with Wally. The idea is to have images of a human head on a hanging lamp. I used the video I made in front of green screen. We added a “blinking” lamp effect at the beginning to give a ghostly feel

things I have learned from this exercise:

1. lamp is hanging between the projector and the back wall. Therefore to map the lamp out, we need to trace the shadow of the lamp on the back wall instead of the actual lamp itself
2. we couldn’t cutomize the sequence resolution to match our projector which has a not-so-stand 800:600 res. Unlike Final cut pro, Final cut express doesn’t give me options to customise in sequence settings (or I couldn’t find out how to do it) But in the end the projection worked because the relative ratio of the FCE sequence (1440:1080) is the same as that of the projector (800:600). because once full screened, they would end up looking the same
3. to show transparency in the masked shape, the file needs to be imported into FCE as psd file not JPEG. When imported as JPEG, it didn’t show transparency. I need to find out why….
